This week's guest went from working in his bedroom to the top of the charts. Please welcome to The Place, Grammy Nominated / Multiplatinum Producer Mick Schultz!

BIO:
Mick Schultz is a grammy-nominated music producer who achieved multi-platinum success by blazing his own trail through the music industry when he was just a teenager. The St. Louis native moved to Chicago at the age of 18 and soon after he met Jeremih while attending Columbia College. The two began making music in Schultz’s makeshift apartment studio and their chemistry was palpable. The duo co-wrote and produced Jeremih’s self-titled debut album and took it to a local Chicago radio station with hopes of getting their first single “Birthday Sex” played. The song was an instant hit after it aired and soon every major label was calling to make a deal.
The two went on to spawn mega hits “Down On Me” featuring 50 Cent, “Don’t Tell ‘Em” featuring YG, and “I Like” featuring Ludacris firmly establishing Schultz as one of the top new go-to music producers.
Since breaking into the industry Schultz has went on to earn two grammy nominations and produced multiple hits for various artist including Why Don’t We, Max Frost, Rihanna, Kelly Clarkson, Jez Dior, SoMo, and Zendaya to name a few. Whether from a makeshift studio or in his own state-of-the-art recording studio, Schultz has always been driven by the desire to make music. Constantly pushing his own limits, he pours his all into writing and producing rather than getting sidetracked by publicity or image. Artists who work with him have noted they can hear a difference in their music after working in his studio, where they’re free of the pressure of timetabled sessions and can reap the benefits of a hands-on producer who simply loves to inspire and vibe with other music lovers. In 2019 Schultz took his passion for independent projects and love for developing new talent and created Upside Records, a joint venture label under Atlantic Records. Schultz is currently producing and overseeing projects for various artist.

Ruff Mix Master Gordie makes his appearance in today's episode and he brought his dad, Grammy Award Winning Mix Engineer Alex Tumay. Tune in as we take a long overdue deep dive with Multi-Platinum Mix Engineer, Alex Tumay!

BIO:
Alex Tumay is a mixing and recording engineer based in NYC. He began his music career in Atlanta, first working under Ben Allen at Soapbox Studios and Maze & Solitaire Studio before becoming the Head Engineer and Tech at DARP Studios. There he connected with a group of upcoming artists and producers including Young Thug, Metro Boomin and 808 Mafia, and together they fostered a creative environment that became the birthing ground of the new Atlanta sound. After leaving DARP in 2015, Alex reconnected with Travis Scott and Young Thug to work on Rodeo and Barter 6. Eventually becoming a mixer full time, Alex decided to move to NYC. He has since started the This Sounds Better podcast with Miles Walker and Jason Kingsland, which has a new season premiering in the fall, and has lectured for SXSW and Redbull Music Academy. He now works freelance out of his private studio, “Do What Sounds Good,” in Manhattan. Wanting to provide an affordable alternative to local artists, Alex has decided to open the doors of his studio at a discounted rate, with his assistants running sessions after undergoing training. Some new releases from the past few months include: Young Thug, Vince Staples, Cosima, Nothing Nowhere, Swae Lee, A Boogie, Shoreline Mafia, Cousin Stizz, Ugly God, Bazzi, Rico Nasty, and Ness Nite.

this is a tutorial on the easy way to make melodic beats with the new ctrl midi kit. I also give tips on my process and really the process i have learned over the years. personally to me its not about watching hundreds of videos to get better. Doing that only works to a certain point. i wanted to share the thought process that helps me ( & from what I learned many other major producers) on how to make good melodies & beats. I personally hate when i watch a generic tutorial so I wanted to come back to youtube CONSISTENTLY & GIVE THE GEMS!!!! enjoy the cook up & cop the kit it supports a ton.
