EXCLUSIVE: Zaytoven & Cassius Jay Talk Music & Culture 2015

Zaytoven - a household name not just in the south, but worldwide. Although Zaytoven may just now be recognized for what some may consider Young Dolph’s breakout hit, “Preach” and Migos “Versace”, he has been around for over a decade, making hits!

In 2006, Zaytoven teamed up with his partner in crime, Gucci Mane, to create his breakout record “So Icey”, which ironically featured Gucci’s foe, Young Jeezy. Three years later Zaytoven and Gucci teamed up to create “Bricks”, which began the era of trap music. Over the years, Zaytoven and Gucci Mane partnered up to create many street classics which featured the likes of Nikki Minaj, Rich Homie Quan, Future, Yo Gotti and too many other’s to list.

I got a chance to discuss music and culture with the beat God, Zaytoven, and his protege Cassius Jay. Although Cassius Jay’s name does not hold as much weight as Zaytoven’s, he is making a name for himself with breakout records, “Hot Boy” by Bankroll Fresh and “Make Sum Shake” by Cool Amerika.

During the interview Zaytoven discussed how much of a role religion plays in his everyday life; his new book, From A To Zay; wanting to work with Cam’Ron; music being devalued since the days of “Bricks” because of the internet; upcoming albums and mixtapes with Future, OG Maco, Travis Scoot, Migos, and every major artist in Atlanta; how great it feels to still have a musical ear and being responsible for breaking artists; compares himself to a DJ; Finesse The Movie; not having to be a lyricist to make a hit record on his beats, and so much more!
