THE QUICKEST ROUTE TO SUCCESS AS A MUSIC PRODUCER | Illmind BLAP:CAM 052

Even though it may seem like I’m creating at such a high level, there’s still so much more I need to learn. Since the very beginning I always just made it a habit to learn stuff that I was highly interested in. Remember back in 2005 when all my beats sounded like Dilla? And then I was on some street sh*t in 2009. Then I started experimenting and did some bass and 808 sh*t and pop leaning stuff. I’ve dipped my creativity in many ways at this point and I’m STILL experimenting. You’ll never ever catch me stuck doing one thing for 5 years. As musicians we evolve.

DON'T WAIT FOR ANYBODY TO HELP YOU BLOW UP - NOW IS THE TIME | Illmind BLAP:CAM 051

I recently took a trip to San Francisco to link up with a handful of up-coming music producers, artists and singers. We booked a private studio space and the vibe was incredible. We had some amazing conversation regarding first coming up in the game & dealing with the pressures, staying in touch with people that are on YOUR level (not necessarily more successful), building relationships with music supervisors who control the music placed on TV shows and movies, the art of producing and my process on not over producing a beat to leave room for vocalists. Is Instagram targeting effective?

TALKING MUSIC PRODUCTION + KEYS TO SUCCESS AT YOUTUBE HQ | Illmind BLAP:CAM 050

I had the pleasure if being invited to speak to some of the staff at the YOUTUBE HQ (most of them were watching via stream at their work desks because it was smack in the middle of the work day/week) in San Francisco to talk about what it's like to be an entrepreneur in music, my roots as a Filipino/American and how that influenced my decision making and what it's like to be a minority in my field. I went into detail on my struggles coming up as a music producer and what drove me to pursue my passion (one being video game music lol).

FINDING PEOPLE THAT CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE | Illmind BLAP:CAM 049

What is an A&R? It stands for "Artist & Repertoire". It's the person at a record label who juggles a bunch of different things. Finding talent. Curating projects. Getting things done. I've had good and bad experiences with these people in my career. Some are amazing at what they do! Some are in it for the wrong reasons. Here I break down a few key pointers on how to interact and what to look out for if you are doing business with one of them.
