Today, we have another video showing how we are changing a small kids bedroom into a control room with the help from our friends at Sweetwater! In this video we are showing you how we added our Acoustic Treatments to the room.
Gavin Haverstick from Haverstick Designs is joining us to help with the acoustic design of our room and passed along his tips and tricks to share with you!
Here is an overview of the Acoustic Treatments we are using the room:
Reflection control is created in the room using the 2 inch FulFill Panels from Acoustical.
The back wall has the Acoustical FulFillment Flex 48 panels which is a patented panel that is a diffuser when you want it to be, and an absorber when you want it to be, depending on what you need it to be that day. It is great to keep it on the back wall since the mix position will have the speakers pointed and firing towards the Flex 48, which can be a nice bass trap.
The ceiling should have FulFillment panels above the mix positionl, but then we are also adding the pArtScience Space Array Diffusers which will be going on the ceiling and door. What they do is the scatter sound, allowing you to control the room without it sounding dead/lifeless.
Covering windows with curtains will not only provide reflection control, but it will also absorb some of the energy, and provide you with more control over the ambience of the room with you being able to open and close them. They will help muffle outside sound from bleeding in.
The Auralex ProGo 26 will go in front of the closet in the room, which is the first reflection point. There is no way to treat this specific closet because it is a bifold door, so the moveable treatment is a great option.
The combination of all of these treatments should be a great help in creating a awesome mix room!
